About The Campaign

About the Washington State Postpartum Depression (PPD) Awareness Campaign
We are committed to addressing PPD in ways that will inform, inspire and impact the future health of women, children and their families in Washington.

In May 2005, Washington State passed groundbreaking legislation to provide a public awareness campaign that would educate women and their families about the signs, symptoms and treatment of postpartum depression (PPD).

The campaign is led by the Council for Children & Families in collaboration with a host of partner organizations and citizen advocates throughout the state.

Talking about PPD can be the first step toward recovery. The campaign message, “Speak Up When You’re Down,” encourages women and their families to talk openly with each other and with their healthcare provider if they are feeling depressed.

The campaign also provides a statewide, toll-free warm line: 1-888-404-7763 (PPMD) operated by Postpartum Support International of Washington.

The Council is proud to lead this pioneering effort to bring greater awareness, diagnosis, treatment and community support to women and families affected by PPD.
